Door Academy – Divergent visions, è un master internazionale specializzato nei moderni linguaggi della fotografia documentaria.

Nella società dell’immagine l’ipervisibilità rende ciechi, insensibili, conformi anche quando non lo siamo. Obiettivo principale del master è imparare a guardare in una modalità diversa, che si discosti dalle mode e dalle didascalie del reale. Una visione capace di arrivare in profondità attraverso l’evocazione, l’immaginazione e l’indagine.

Il master si terrà on line con alcuni incontri presso una sede da definirsi. La durata sarà di otto mesi, dai primi di novembre 2020 fino a  giugno 2021. Sarà tenuto da Massimo Mastrorillo/door, fotografo con un’esperienza pluriennale nel campo della didattica e vincitore di diversi premi internazionali con la collaborazione di RVM Magazine che porterà alla stampa di una pubblicazione con i migliori lavori prodotti nel corso dell’anno accademico.  Ad arricchire e completare il corso ci saranno interventi di Augusto Pieroni, storico e critico delle arti contemporanee, curatore e saggista, anch’egli con esperienza pluriennale nel campo della didattica, Aleix Plademunt e Antonio Xoubanova, noti autori spagnoli, entrambi attivi nel campo dell’editoria fotografica, il primo con la casa editrice Ca L’isidret e il secondo come eccellente graphic designer.  Il master è un vero e proprio laboratorio creativo di sperimentazione, basato sull’idea che lo sviluppo delle capacità dei singoli individui debba avvenire all’interno di un processo di apprendimento basato sulla condivisione e sulla collaborazione.

Obiettivi del master:

  • Sviluppare le capacità autoriali e creative, l’approccio tecnico e la consapevolezza degli studenti.
  • Fornire le conoscenze necessarie per operare nel mercato e produrre lavori che rispondano alle richieste dello stesso.
  • Mettere in luce gli aspetti pratici per risolvere eventuali problemi logistici e creativi che un autore può incontrare nella realizzazione di lavori professionali e progetti personali.
  • Apprendere come rendere concettualmente valido il proprio lavoro e sviluppare una personale visione e capacità di lettura, nell’ambito della fotografia documentaria e del fotogiornalismo.
  • Abituare gli studenti ad avere cura della precisione e del dettaglio, nella fase sia realizzativa che di editing e di presentazione dei propri lavori.
  • Insegnare a raccontare delle storie, cercando di mantenere un perfetto equilibrio tra forma e contenuto.
  • Spingere gli allievi a sganciarsi da soluzioni narrative stereotipate.
  • Imparare a utilizzare le immagini come se fossero delle parole, a “vedere” in maniera diversa, usando tutti gli organi di senso e non solo quello della vista.

Il costo del corso è di 1500 euro. Al momento dell’iscrizione bisognerà versare 300 euro, non rimborsabili in caso di rinuncia. Il resto potrà essere saldato attraverso rate bimensili prefissate. È richiesto l’invio di un portfolio di selezione.

Door Academy – Divergent Visions is an international master which focuses on the modern languages of documentary photography.
In an image-based society, hyper-visibility can make us blind, numb, compliant, even when we are not.
The aim of this course is not only to learn to look in a different way, but also diverting from all trends, which means moving away from the academic representation of reality.  To develop a vision that is able to evoke and seep in depth, through investigation and imagination.
The course will be on line with some meetings  in a location to be defined. It will last 8 months, from the beginning of November 2020 until the end of June 2021. It will be held by Massimo Mastrorillo / door, a photographer with vast experience in teaching and winner of several international awards the cooperation with RVM Magazine, that will take to produce a publication with the best works produced during the academic year.  To enrich and complete the the course, there will be lessons held by Augusto Pieroni, historian and art critic, curator and essayst, he also with a vast experience in teaching, Aleix Plademunt and Antonio Xoubanova, well known Spanish authors, both of them involved in the photobook publishing process, the first one with his publishing house Ca L’Isidret and the second one as an excellent graphic designer. The course is based on the belief that during the learning-process individual abilities develop better and grow in a sharing and collaborative context, thus it aims to become a creative lab in which to experiment.

Aims of the course:

– Develop authorial and creative abilities, as well as the students’ technical approach and awareness

– Provide the necessary knowledge to operate in the market and produce work that responds to the market requests

– Highlight all practical aspects, in order to solve any logistic and creative problems that an author might encounter during the development of professional or personal projects

– Learn to convey your work in a conceptually valid way and develop a unique vision and ability to read images in the field of documentary photography and photojournalism

– Stress on the importance of paying attention to details and precision, both in the development and editing process, as well as during the presentation phase of the students’ work

– Learn to tell a story, maintaining the perfect balance between form and content

– Encourage students to divert from stereotypical narration

– Learn to use images as if they were words, to “see” in a different way, discovering all the senses, not only the eyes

The price of the Academy course is 1500 euros. Students are required to pay an initial amount of 300 euros when subscribing, a sum which is non refundable in case of withdrawal. The remaining sum can be paid through arranged bimonthly instalments. A portfolio is needed for initial selection.

Biografie Docenti

 

Massimo Mastrorillo ha lavorato prevalentemente a progetti a lungo termine concentrandosi sulle profonde conseguenze di conflitti e disastri naturali sulla società.

Ha ricevuto diversi premi, tra cui il World Press Photo, il Picture of the Year International, il Best of Photojournalism, il PDN Annual, il Fnac Attenzione Talento Fotografico, l’International Photography Award, l’International Photographer of the Year al 5° Lucie Awards e il Sony World Photography Awards. È stato finalista all’Aftermath Grant 2011. È stato selezionato per il Vevey Images Grant 2015 e 2017 e ha ricevuto la nomination per il Prix Pictet 2009 e 2015. Il suo libro The Sea is Us è stato selezionato per il Vevey Images Dummy Award 2019 e per il Luma Rencontres Dummy Book Award 2019.
È stato Talent Manager dell’agenzia LUZ ed è impegnato da anni nella didattica.  È uno dei membri e fondatori di door, una factory romana che si occupa di fotografia, educational, talent scouting  e publishing.

Massimo Mastrorillo works mainly on long term documentary projects, devoting himself to the deep consequences of war and natural disasters and their aftermaths on society.

His major awards include: World Press Photo, Pictures of the Year International (POYi) and the Best of Photojournalism (Magazine Photographer of the Year), FNAC “Attenzione Talento Fotografico”, the PDN Photo Annual, the International Photographer of the Year at the 5th Annual Lucie Awards, the Sony World Photography Awards and an Aftermath Grant (finalist, 2011). He was shortlisted for the Vevey Images Grant 2015 2017 and nominated the Prix Pictet 2009 and 2015. His book The Sea is Us was shortlisted for the Vevey Images Dummy Award 2019 e the Luma Rencontres Dummy Book Award 2019.

He was Talent Manager at Luz agency and he has been teaching for a long time. He is a cofounder of door. a roman factory working with photography, educational, talent scouting and publishing.

 

Rvm Hub nasce nel luglio 2016 con la volontà di creare una realtà che si occupasse principalmente di editoria fotografica ma anche di organizzazione di workshop e curatela e produzione di mostre.

Come casa editrice ha lavorato al restyling e pubblicazione di Rvm Magazine, rivista che ha ricevuto diversi premi internazionali. Dal maggio 2020 inizia a pubblicare libri che, come la rivista, si pongono l’obiettivo di far dialogare la fotografia con altre forme di narrazione come la letteratura, la poesia, l’illustrazione e l’arte grafica.

Rvm Hub, founded in July 2016, is a publisher specialized in photography which also organises workshops, curates and hosts exhibtions.

Rvm Hub restyled and published the internationally acclaimed and much awarded Rvm Magazine. Since May 2020 it published books that, like the magazine, aim to create a dialogue between photography and other forms of narration, for instance literature, poetry, illustration and graphic art.

Augusto Pieroni, storico e critico delle arti contemporanee, curatore e saggista. Già docente di storia e critica della fotografia alle università di Roma-Sapienza e di Viterbo, oltreché presso la Scuola Romana di Fotografia, lo IED moda etc. Attualmente insegna discipline fotografiche autoriali presso Officine Fotografiche, RUFA e Door. Ideatore e coordinatore del Master di fotografia autoriale “Firma Visiva” (presso Officine Fotografiche) e del Master di nudo “Il Corpo Visivo” (presso Door). Tiene conferenze, workshop e corsi one-on-one. È autore di best seller come: Portfolio! – Costruzione e lettura delle sequenze fotografiche (2015), Leggere la fotografia – Osservazione e analisi delle immagini fotografiche (2003), Fototensioni – Arte ed estetica delle ricerche fotografiche d’inizio millennio (2000). Suoi articoli si trovano su riviste quali: Aperture (NY), HotShoe (London-NY), Eyemazing (Amsterdam), Muse Magazine (Milano).

Augusto Pieroni is a contemporary Art historian and critic, as well as an acclaimed curator and writer. He taught  Photography History and Criticism at Universita di Roma La Sapienza and Viterbo, as well as at Scuola Romana di Fotografia and IED. He is currently teaching Visual Arts and Phtographic Critical Analysis at Officine Fotografiche, RUFA and Door. He is the creator and coordinator of the authorial photography Masterclass “Firma Visiva” (Officine Fotografiche) and the Masterclass “Il Corpo Visivo – Creative Nude Photography ” (Door). He holds conferences, workshops and one to one courses. He is the author of the bestsellers Portfolio!- Construction and Reading of the Photographic Sequence (2015); Leggere la fotografiaObservation and Analysis of Photographic Images (2003); Fototensioni- Photographic Art and Aesthetics in End of Millennium Research (2000). Antonio M. Xoubanova studied photography at Escuela de Arte no 10 in Madrid. Upon finishing his studies in 2003, he set up the BlankPaper collective along with other photographers with shared interests. He has received several awards and grants such as the FotoPres’ (2007) grant from Fundació La Caixa to help producehis first project, M30; a grant from the Ministry of Culture to work on a project at the Colegio de España in Paris; a documentary photography prize at ARCOmadrid fair (2005); the first prize in the 18th edition ofRenfe’s ‘Camios De Hierro’; and a grant from the Fundación Santa María de Albarracín, among others. Hiswork has been published in GEO, The Herald Tribune, The New York Times, IMA, DAZED, PDN, British Journal of Photography (BJP), El Semanal and Yo Dona, and he regularly collaborates with the newspaper El Mundo.

He also teaches workshops and classes at BlankPaper Escuela, IED, DOOR, Efti and curates exhibitions at La Irreal gallery along with María Serrano. His images have been shown at CaixaForum in Barcelona, Galeria Olido in São Paulo, the Centro Cultural , Conde Duque in Madrid, and at festivals such as the Photography Meetings in Albarracín, Traffic in Barcelona, ECO, and festivals as SevillaFoto and PHotoEspaña. His work has also been published in FiestaFiesta01 fanzine (FiestaEdiciones).

In February 2013 he published his first book, Casa de Campo, with MACK. The project was exhibited at the Brachfeld Gallery (Paris) next month. This work has been also shown at the Madrid Council in an exhibitiontitled ‘CityScapes’, along with photographs by Joel Sternfeld, Jane Campion, Txema Salvans and Guy Tillim. InDecem-ber Casa de Campo was shown at LE BAL (Paris) in the exhibition “Regard sur la nouvelle scènephotographique espagnole”, along with Óscar Monzón, Ricardo Cases and Aleix Plademunt’s work.

In 2014 he did an exhibition with Aleix Plademunt in the series ‘1 + 1 = 12’ at the French Institute in Madrid called ‘GIGANTE’. Later, he also showed Casa de Campo in Fotocolectania (Barcelona).

In 2015 Casa de Campo participated in the show “Photography Now! Vol. 2: Spanish New Horizon“ at IMAConcept Store in Tokyo (Japan), and he started working with Ángeles Baños Gallery, where he had his first solo show of his next work, Un Universo Pequeño. This project was published later this year with the Catalanpublishing house Ca l’Isidret and the Japanese RONDADE.

In 2016, he shown Un Universo Pequeño at Wer-haus Gallery in Barcelona and CentroCentro in Madrid during the Fiebre Festival, participating in ARCOlisboa with Ángeles Baños Gallery. After that, he published a Photobolsillo book from La Fábrica along with the Blank Paper collective.

In 2017 he participated in the Volta Art Fair, the Rencontres d’Arles with the group exhibition ‘BlankPaper: Histoires du présent immédiat’ and in projects like ‘Libro’ from DOOR School in Rome.

In 2018 he shown his new project Grafitti in Riaferture Ferrara Italia. He also started designig photography books like Ustedes los vivos of David Hornillos and Swimming pool of Michele Tagliaferri.

Aleix Plademunt nel 2000 ha studiato ingegneria presso l’UdG e nel 2003 si è laureato in fotografia presso l’UPC di Barcellona. Negli anni successivi ha lavorato intensamente a diversi progetti fotografici tra cui: Espacios Comunes (2005), Espectadores (2006), Nada (2007), DubaiLand (2008), All (2009), Small Dreams (2009), Movimientos de Suelo (2010), Almost There (2013). Nel 2006 ha cominciato a collaborare con Olivier Waltman (Parigi). Nel 2011, insieme al fotografo Roger Guaus e Juan Diego Valera ha fondato la casa editrice Ca l’Isidret Edicions con lo scopo di pubblicare i rispettivi progetti. Dal 2003 a oggi ha esposto in circa quaranta mostre collettive e venti mostre individuali in giro per il mondo. In particolare il suo progetto Almost There è stato esposto a Le Bal (Parigi) e presso l’IMA Gallery di Tokyo insieme ai lavori di Antonio Xoubanova, Oscar Monzon e Ricardo Cases.

Aleix Plademunt in 2000  studied technical engineering at UdG and in 2003  received a degree in photography from UPC, Barcelona. During the subsequent years he has worked ceaselessly on myriad personal photographic projects. Some of the highlights of these are Espacios Comunes (2005), Espectadores (2006), Nada (2007), DubaiLand (2008), All (2009), Small Dreams (2009), Movimientos de Suelo (2010), Almost There (2013).

In 2006 he began his collaboration with Olivier Waltman (Paris). In 2011, together with the photographers Roger Guaus and Juan Diego Valera, he founded an editorial project called Ca l’Isidret Edicions to publish their own work. Since 2003, he has featured in over forty group shows and twenty individual exhibitions, highlighting Almost There exhibition at the Le Bal’s (Paris) and IMA Gallery (Tokyo) together with Antonio Xoubanova, Óscar Monzón and Ricardo Cases work.
