“Personality and Passion in your Photobook”
In questo workshop Kessels interagirà con i partecipanti su come creare e progettare un libro fotografico.
Il workshop teorico e pratico con Kessels verterà sullo sviluppo dell’idea, della narrazione, dell’editing e come comunicare il progetto in forma di libro.
Ci sarà anche spazio per un approfondimento da parte dell’artista sul suo personale modo di lavorare e di creare libri.
Erik Kessels è un artista, designer e curatore olandese, con un grande interesse per la fotografia. Kessels è Creative Partner dal 1996 dell’agenzia di comunicazione KesselsKramer con sedi ad Amsterdam e Londra.
Come artista e curatore, Kessels ha pubblicato oltre 80 libri. È l’autore del bestseller internazionale Failed It!
Durante i 20 anni della sua carriera, Kessels ha raggiunto un ruolo indiscutibile nel campo della cosiddetta ”found photography”. Invece di scattare nuove immagini, per la maggior parte dei suoi progetti, riunisce fotografie preesistenti e le riutilizza come tessere per formare il proprio mosaico.
È un artista senza macchina fotografica: nella sua pratica la fotografia è un elemento già pronto da campionare e ricontestualizzare. Il risultato è una sorta di nuovo ecosistema di immagini.
Erik Kessels ha realizzato e curato diverse mostre ed è stato definito “uno stregone visivo” da Time Magazine e un “Moderno Antropologo” da Vogue (Italia).
La sua retrospettiva di metà carriera è stata esposta a Torino, Düsseldorf, Budapest e recentemente al SFMOMA.
Il costo del workshop è di 250 euro.

“Personality and Passion in your Photobook”
During this workshop Kessels will be interacting with the participants on how to create the start of a photographic book from a close personal and passionate story.
In the workshop, the focus is on this personal book project and will deal with crafts like idea, narration, edit, and how to communicate the book.
Apart from this there will be also an inside into Kessels his personal way of working and book creation.
Erik Kessels is a Dutch artist, designer and curator with great interest in photography. Kessels is since 1996 Creative Partner of communications agency KesselsKramer in Amsterdam and London.
As an artist and curator Kessels has published over 80 books of his ‘re-appropriated’ images and has written the international bestseller Failed It!
Over the 20 years of his career, Kessels has come to the fore as a main and unquestionable reference in the field of so-called ‘found photography’. Instead of shooting new images, for most of his projects he brings together pre-existent photographs and reuses them as tiles to form his own mosaic. He is an artist without a camera or even a lens: in his practice, photography is a ready-made element to be sampled and re-contextualised. The result is a sort of eco-system of images, through which nothing is added to the enormous quantity of imagery which now crowds out the world and grows exponentially day by day, but which on the contrary merely recoups and recycles that which is already there.
Kessels made and curated exhibitions such as Loving Your Pictures, Mother Nature, 24HRS in Photos, Album Beauty, Unfinished Father and GroupShow.
His mid-career retrospective was shown in Turin, Düsseldorf, Budapest and he exhibited recently in the SFMOMA. He was called “a visual sorcerer” by Time Magazine and a “Modern Anthropologist” by Vogue (Italia).
